Garner’s most significant breakthrough came with the creation of Texas Pete Hot Sauce in 1936. While marketers suggested “Mexican Joe” to reflect the sauce’s flavor, Garner had a different vision. He wanted an American name, one that honored his sons: Thad, Ralph, and Harold. Fortunately, Harold’s childhood nickname was “Pete,” and thus, “Texas Pete” was born. This unique, flavorful hot sauce became an instant hit, reflecting Garner’s innovative approach to food production and marketing. Garner’s three sons joined him in the food business, and in 1946, they officially incorporated the company.
Garner’s success with Texas Pete was not merely due to the product itself but also his innovative business strategies.
