When the Boomerang Comes Back: Summit School Social

A look behind our Summit School Social and the ever flowing talent pool within Winston Salem

When an evening at Winston Starts includes creating memories and talking over shared values with old friends and new, you wonder if it gets any better than this? Winston Starts had the pleasure of co-hosting a social for Summit School as part of our Boomerang Project, which allows us to highlight the immense growth and improvement of our city in recent years. Just as the boomerang always returns, we provide a platform for our cities alumni to do the same.

So, what does it actually look like when the boomerang makes it back to Winston Salem? Well, last week we had one of our first looks at Winston Starts when hosting the Summit School Social and where we were able to see the promising potential of collaboration and future possibilities.

By pairing Summit School mentors with entrepreneurs, the resources in our Winston-Salem ecosystem open a wide range of doors to help Startups scale to improve the local economy. Additionally by coming together and sharing one another’s stories, our relationship can grow stronger and allow opportunities and connections to foster. We believe that planting these seeds are vital for building a prosperous community for this generation, the next, and onward.

This event was a great time for Summit alumni to reconnect, share current endeavors and unite with some of Winston Starts founders. Throughout the evening a select few of our founders shared their vision and mission; Swipeby, PixGift, KWIKR, MRP Mobility and FanPark you could observe the collaboration between the two, exemplifying the Boomerang Project. For instance, Logan Harvey, founder of FanPark, explained how impressed he was that Summit is dedicated to building strong futures for young student at Summit that in turn, will boost our local economy.

With that Michael Ebeling, Head of Summit School, revealed the clear connection to how they prepare their students similar to how a startup approaches their business;

“How do we prepare our children for a future we can’t predict? I believe it’s the same way we prepare our entrepreneurs for a future we can’t predict. You prepare them by encouraging them to make their own future.”

Overall, this event has shown to us that the Boomerang Project is something to highlight and pursue as we continue to grow and prosper within the Winston Salem community. We are understanding the benefit in reconnecting with the community and we were so happy to host Summit School. We would love to continue to position ourselves in a city of growth and prosperity for many to realize the revitalization of our ecosystem.
